The Humsafar Trust being the first and oldest Community Based Organizations (CBO) of LGBTQ+ in the country. It has provided its technical support towards organizational development of several Community Based Organizations across the country. The technical expertise of Humsafar Trust is acknowledged and recognized by National and International agencies. Humsafar Trust has mentored and provided capacity building support to Community Based Organizations (CBOs) as part of its mandate. At Humsafar, capacity building has a two-pronged strategy that includes internal and external capacity building. Project SAHYOG supported by MAC AIDS FUND provides ongoing capacity building to the HIV intervention teams of Humsafar, to ensure to deliver quality services to communities in physical sites and internet outreach and continuum of care to the people living with HIV (PLHIV) communities.
The Humsafar Trust nurtured 110 CBOs in 27 states across India. It was felt that Humsafar Trust is a replicable model and capacity building of CBOs should be done in a structured manner and hence Global Fund - Round 9 Pehchan Project was its largest initiative. It was the first ever community led initiative that was implemented in the 17 states of country with Humsafar handling 5 States (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan) in the western region and 51 CBO as SSR’s (Sub-Sub-Recipients) in these 5 states. The objective of this program was to strengthen community institutions and systems for men who have sex with men (MSM), Transgender and Hijra communities to increase reach and quality of services. This program mandates the strengthening of the civil societies, institutional capacity building, Policy development and Advocacy of its 51 SSRs are the mandates of the program.
